Welcome to my homestead

Hello! My name is Sierra, and I am learning—maybe just like you—how to live a homesteading lifestyle in the suburbs.

My interest in homesteading began in 2024 when grocery store food prices started rising. A year later, we picked up three chicks from the post office and brought them home, raising them to produce eggs for our family.

That same year, I tried growing my own produce, but it was an epic fail. My squash and lettuce were roasted by the Florida sun, and I transplanted my cilantro too early, causing it to shrivel up and die. Whatever else I planted, I can’t even remember—I’m pretty sure it was taken over by pests. To put it simply, 2025 was a disaster in the garden.

The only things that did well were my wildflowers, sunflowers, and mint.

Now here we are in 2026, and things are finally looking up. My garden is alive with plants that are flowering and producing delicious fruits and vegetables. While I’m still learning every day, I’ve already discovered that gardening—and homesteading in general—is often about learning from your mistakes and trying again.

I started this blog to take you along on my homesteading journey. I’ll be sharing my experiences with gardening, raising chickens, cooking from scratch, homeschooling my children, and much more.

Along the way, I’ll share both my successes and my failures, as well as the lessons I’ve learned from each one. My hope is to inspire others to try new things on their own properties, whether that’s starting a backyard garden, raising a few chickens, or simply baking a loaf of bread in the kitchen.

Homesteading excites me, and I hope it will inspire you too.

Whether you’re an experienced homesteader or simply curious about becoming more self-sufficient, I’m glad you’re here. I hope you’ll follow along as I learn, experiment, and share what works—and what doesn’t!
